FIM North American Championship

CMA National and FIMNA event information

The CPTA will be hosting a 2-day, one-weekend, winner-takes-all CMA National Championship on September 8thand 9that Ioco, in Port Moody, BC.  (There are no other CMA National events this year, so if you win your class, YOU ARE THE CHAMPION!!!)  This event, apart from being a CMA National, will also be part of the FIM North America Championship.  To ride the event, you must either be a Canadian with a CMA license, or an American with an AMA license (see below for more information on the FIM NA championship).

  • $40 per day:  before Aug 26th, $50 per day from Aug 26thuntil the day of the event.

  • Minder fee is $10 per day:  (minders must also have valid CMA or AMA license accordingly).
  • Camping:  with a truck/car and tent is $10 per night; RV or trailer camping is $20 per night. Camping is limited, please reserve early with Ted McDowall at tedmcdowall61@gmail.com. Camping is gated, gates locked 8pm-8am.  Camping and practice are open from Tuesday, September 4th

  • Classes:  classes offered are CMA national classes: Intermediate/Veteran 55, Advanced/Veteran 45/Women, Expert, and Championship. (There is no Junior class).  (There will also be a Pro class for the FIM NA event riders). (All classes match up to NATC and FIM NA championship classes, see chart below).
  • Format:  the event will be 3 loops of 12 sections (Intermediate/Vet 55 riders will have 10 sections). It will be an all-day event with scorers/checkers at each section all day (not cross-check or group-check like other CPTA events).
  • We are looking for event volunteers:  (checkers and scorers). If you are travelling with someone who is available to score (including punching cards), let us know!  Please contact Steve Fracy at teamfracy@shaw.ca
  • Requirements for the event:
    • Motorcycle registration: For BC motorcycles: ICBC registration.  Provincial or state registration for out-of-province motorcycles. For motorcycles from a province/state with no registration requirements, some form of ownership proof (invoice or MSO).
    • Spark arrestors:  (BC law)
    • Working front and rear brakes
    • Working stop-engine switch:  (“kill” switch). Does not have to be a “tether” switch
    • Approved helmet:  (DOT or European (ECE) standard)
    • Coloured number plates:  according to class (see chart below for class and number plate information). (Some spare number plates will be available at sign up). (Number plates will ideally have your name, city and prov/state, and class).
    • Jersey:  Jersey is NOT required to have your name on it.
  • There will be NO SPECTATOR BIKES ON THE LOOP. Only rider, minder, press, and event volunteer bikes will be allowed on the course.   Most sections will be with-in walking distance, and there will be marked spectator and minder loops.
  • Media: Please contact Steve Fracy at teamfracy@shaw.ca to sign up for media passes and a bib to wear on the loop.
  • There will be YOUTH EVENT ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON. This event will be 5 sections ridden twice, intended for very young/very new riders (like OSET riders).  The event is free, and there will be trophies at the awards ceremony.  Contact Guy Smeeth at gcalsme@gmail.com if you are interested in signing up for this event.

First Rider Out:  9:00 am, riders follow at 1 minute intervals

Afternoon:  Kids/youth event (start time TBD, about 3 or 4pm)

Awards:  30 minutes after last rider in

FIM North American Championship

The FIM North American Championship consists of four rounds of competition; two rounds in Donner, California (run in conjunction with the US Trials Championship Round 9 & 10) and two rounds in Port Moody, British Columbia (run in conjunction with the CMA National Championship).  CMA licenses will be accepted at the AMA national in Donner, and AMA licenses will be accepted at the CMA national at Ioco.  By virtue of signing up for the national events, you will also be automatically entered into the FIM North American Championship.

At the event in Donner – September 1&2:  

  • A Canadian rider’s CMA license will be valid, and entry is $80/day pre-entry (2 weeks before the event), $100/day until the Friday of the event, and $150/day on the day of. (Prices in USD).
  • Minders fee is $40/day pre-entry, $50/day until Friday, and $80/day on the day of. (Minders must also have appropriate CMA/AMA license).  (Prices in USD).
  • All riders will be automatically entered into the FIM NA championship.

At the event at Ioco – September 8&9:

  • A Canadian rider must have a CMA license to ride the CMA national and be entered into the FIM NA event, and an American rider must have an AMA license to ride the FIM NA event.
  • All riders will be automatically entered into the FIM NA championship.
  • An American rider who wishes to compete for the Canadian National Championship (in his/her class) along with the FIM North American Championship may also purchase a CMA license and be able to challenge the CMA championship. (The Canadian National Championship is only one weekend, so these 2 rounds determine the championship).  (Event entry fee is $40 CDN (pre-registration rate) each day and includes both FIM NA and CMA national, and a CMA membership is extra).

Please reference the class map below to determine the Canadian/American equivalent class you will compete under. Please note that the markings and rules will be consistent with the US Trials Championship.
