November 17: Memorial Trial, Ioco, BC.
October 20: Moto Trials West Uhuru Trial, Ioco, BC.
Uhuru is a Swahili word meaning freedom. Thanks to Moto Trials West, the Uhuru Trial at Ioco on October 20, 2024 gave 18 riders the freedom to go play in the mud and get wet. After a LOT of water on Saturday, Sunday dawned dry at first and later when a steady rain settled in, it did not matter because it was actually warm if you did not stop.
The 8th section was the trickiest one for the Intermediate riders with a tight turn into a root or rock or both. The few cleans there were well earned. Etienne and Emily worked at it in Intermediate with only 3 points separating them in the end. Roy took Senior Intermediate thanks to Skip fiving the last section.
Alex Le took Expert with less than half the points of the next rider. Parker Degray took 43 points in Advanced and Guy Smeeth was 2 points more in Senior Advanced 45.
October 6: Fall Classic Trial, Ioco, BC.
September 15, Iron Mountain Trial, Mission, BC.
The trials thirst after a summer of no trials brought out 28 riders to Iron Mountain in Mission on September 15, 2024. They were greeted by the kind of weather that every trials rider prays for. It was cool at first but the sun came out to bring the perfect temperature. A few riders mentioned that the rain from a few days earlier brought slippery conditions that they were not used to after a dry summer. So the scores were a little higher than expected, although some riders (looking at their scores) did not seem bothered.
With a few of our top riders away at the TDN, Steve Day was the Cream of the crop in Expert and Sawyer Collie cruised through all but section 8 to win Advanced and his father (Cam) topped Senior Advanced. Richard Ouellet had 3 good loops and one bad to win Intermediate and Skip Parker did the same in Senior Intermediate. Only one Junior showed up and Asher Orlov soldiered on to finish well.

June 9: Beta Canada Trial, Ioco, BC.
The ninth day of June 2024 started out cloudy but cleared up quickly for a perfect day to ride in the Beta Canada Trial at Ioco. Thirty seven riders took on some challenging or tricky sections with some high scores along the way. The Intermediate riders were particularly challenged with tight corners that rewarded good balance and precise steering. The Expert class was owned by Alex Le who took half the points of his nearest competitor. Jason Miller snuck up from the USA to take Advanced and Paul Marander had the best overall Advanced score to win Senior Advanced. Emily and Catrina battled it out in the all girl Intermediate Classl and were still smiling at the end of the day. The very competitive old guys in the Senior Intermediate class had a surprising number of dabs and a very good time, with Peter Falk taking the no.1 plaque back to Vancouver Island.
Our thanks to Beta Canada for their kind sponsorship and thanks to Greg and Bernard for all their work.

April 21: Team Squid Outlaw Trial, Ioco, BC.
Thanks to Dave Rhodes at Outlaw Trials for his sponsorship of this event. Thanks to Pierce McNeal & Ted McDowall for hosting.
May 26: Whistler Trial, (Sticks and Stones) Whistler, BC
It looked like a gloomy day in May for the CPTA Whistler trial on May 26, 2024, but 44 riders showed up for the ride. The rain never really materialized and conditions were consistent all day. The last trial that I went to in Whistler was 1981 (I think) so it was great to get back there and ride where I have never ridden before. It looks like the Experts were having a hard time finding cleans but it was a little easier on the other classes. Alex Le won Expert handily and Brian McNeal downshifted to ride Advanced for the win. Intermediate was the massive class with Shawn Steinbarhen topping the bunch and Billy D in Senior Intermediate had the best Intermediate score of the day. Don Doerksen

March 17: TRS Motorcycles Canada Trial, Ioco, BC.
If you were at Ioco for the 7th annual TRS Motorcycles Canada Trial on March 17, you probably thought that winter was long gone. Blue skies and twenty degrees were the order of the day. The rapidly drying conditions made for lots of traction and lower than expected scores. Basically, it was perfect for our first full trial of the year and 47 riders showed up to enjoy it. A few riders tried out the Advanced class for the first time and this was a great day for that.
Sean Bird took a five on the first loop and only 1 point after that to clinch a close race for the win. Sam Minchington and Andrew Deboer took Advanced and Senior Advanced, respectively, with very miserly rides. Willy Westwood won Intermediate and Roy Anderson won Senior Intermediate with lots of competitors in that class. Andrew Keleher was best in Junior and Pierce McNeal rode a twin shock Yamaha to be best in Sportsman.

Spring Classic Trial
April 7th was a great day to take out your old twinshock trials bike and see if you still remember how to ride it. It was the Spring Classic at Ioco, BC. The weather did not cooperate as the rain stopped before we started riding, so that part was not classic. Sean Bird set the trial out and then took off to Australia so we could not yell at him. Peirce McNeal cleaned the last loop on a TY250 with a 360 motor in it, so the sections were not too bad. Bob Clark won Classic B and BillyD (83 yr) proved that old still works by topping the Senior Intermediate class, Kevlar Dupuis won Intermediate and Fei Wang took Junior. It was a good days riding and it is always a pleasure to see the old iron doing what they were intended for.
