2021 Club Champions
Memorial Trial, November 14, 2021, Ioco, BC
A very gray and soggy day greeted the participants at the Memorial Trial on Nov. 14/21 at Ioco, B.C. The rain did not stop all day and a lot of scores got worse on the 2nd loop. It was very close in the Expert class after the first loop but Sean Bird held on to take the win by a healthy margin. Alex Le was one of the few to improve on the 2 loop as he took Adv. by 4 points. Bob Clark must have nailed his feet to the pegs as he only took 2 points in 30 sections to win Snr. Int. Kole Hebner was the sole entrant in Int and the 2 people that signed up for Junior look to have been washed away. That is a wrap for the CPTA season but hopefully we will be having a Boxing Day fun trial before 2022 shows up. – Don Doerksen for results click here
Uhuru Trial, October 24, 2021, Ioco, BC
The Uhuru Trial happened on Oct. 24/21 at Ioco, B.C. Uhuru is a Swahili word that we got courtesy of Bill deGaris who turned 80 recently and got 2nd in Snr. 45!! Uhuru means “freedom”. So doff those masks and let’s ride! Twenty nine riders showed up on a day that started dry and ended up wet. That did not affect things too much as scores seemed to get better as the day went on. Sean Bird took only 2 dabs to win Expert by 3 points and Andrew deBoer had the same point spread to win Advanced. Jody Wall topped Int. and Skip Parker handily won Snr. Int. Steve Eremenko took Sportsman as the day dried out at the end and I even saw the sun on the way home. – Don Doerksen for results click here
Iron Mountain Trial, September 19, 2021:
Iron Mountain in Mission was the venue for a good trial put on by the CPTA on Sept. 19/21. The rain had returned after 3 dry months so dust was not a problem! Twenty seven riders showed up and enjoyed a day with only a brief shower to keep things cool. The battle in the Expert class was tight with Sean Bird coming out on top by 4 points. Alex Le was riding very well to be the clear winner in Advanced and Skip Parker took Snr. Int. by a wide margin. Greg Buckmaster came out for the first time in a long time to win Int. and Jack Hillman is proving to be the guy to beat in Junior. Thanks to Skip for adding up the cards on the day and thanks to the City of Mission for the use of their tree farm. Don Doerksen
Three Events for your September Calendar:
With the return of some very welcome rain the fire hazard has been greatly reduced. The club is resuming competition in September with three events:
- September 19th is our annual Iron Mountain Trial in Mission, BC. Don Doerksen is the host and the venue has proven to provide plenty of challenges for all classes.
- September 26th offers the return of Small Wheel Trials to Ioco. It will be a fun day with lots going on for everyone. Beginners and Small Wheel riders kick things off at 10 AM. There will be a short course with about 6 sections. There will be checkers to keep score. Beginners on full size trials bikes are welcome to join in.
- September 26th afternoon will be our Fall Classic Trial. Combined with the Small Wheel event in the morning will be the Fall Classic Trial in the afternoon. Guy Smeeth promises a short, fun course. There will be both A and B classes for the vintage bikes and Junior, Intermediate and Sportsmen can join in the fun on modern trials bikes. for results click here
It will be great to get back to riding events and enjoying the camaraderie but please remember to be responsible and follow provincial health guidelines.
UPDATE:
Last year we received notice of the termination of our land use agreement with Metro Vancouver Regional Parks. Below is the original posting.
Future changes to riding in Belcarra Park:
How are we responding?
The committee was formed and spent many hours composing a response to Metro Vancouver Parks. The new club Executive Committee has focused on this with weekly meetings and a commitment to do our best to reverse this decision. Our rebuttal was submitted to MVP and we are waiting for an official response. We have also presented our grave concerns at the last MVP Committee meeting. It is a difficult battle as they turn deaf ears to our demand for a fair and transparent process in determining our future use of Belcarra Regional Park lands. The decision was made behind closed doors (meaning the public was excluded) and based on a questionably biased internal report by MVP staff. No author(s), no names attached and no third party unbiased input. Recently, our President, Pierce McNeal, sent an open letter to MV Parks director Mike Redpath. You can see the letter in the link below.
Click here to open the letter The Club has been thoughtful and courteous in our outreach to Metro Parks but it’s time to escalate our efforts. We are exploring every avenue to make MV Parks to come to the table and engage in a fair, unbiased dialogue about shared use of lands that the Canada Pacific Trials Association has shared with the community for 50 years. Please remain good stewards of all our riding area and respect all visitors. Ron Walsh (webmaster CPTA)
The CPTA D-Day Trial. June 6, 2021, Ioco, BC.
June 6, 2021 was a good day to remember a famous invasion and a good day to get wet at the CPTA D-Day trial. Almost 50 riders showed up in spite of the rain and finally got to compete again. It was raining steadily at the start but settled down to a drizzle and a drip for the majority of the day. That did not seem to dampen the enthusiasm for the riding. All classes had lots of riders and there were a few people riding their first trial. Sean Bird was magic in Expert losing only 6 marks and Andrew deBoer took Advanced with 25 points. Carl Muller won Senior 45 and and Cam Collie took the Senior Intermediate win while Skip Parker was the best in Sportsman. Sebastion Wandler borrowed a bike and snuck a win in the Junior class by 2 points. Don Doerksen for results click here
