2023 News (Archived)

CPTA Memorial Trial, November 19, 2023.  Ioco, BC.

The CPTA held the Memorial Trial on November 19th, 2023 at Ioco, B.C.  Forty three riders showed up on what turned out to be a perfect day to ride. There was just the gentlest sprinkle during the riders meeting and then it was cool and dry for the rest of the day. The sections were set on the easy side (which is wise in November) and a number of clean loops were recorded, but it was sloppy enough to take some points off everyone.  Jesse McDowall took Expert quite handily and Sawyer Collie followed that lead in Advanced.  The 2 Senior classes went to Andrew Deboer in Senior Advanced and Roy Anderson in Senior Intermediate, where a few points made quite a difference.  Jaclyn Delacroix showed the Intermediates what they are supposed to do and Chessy Knight finally showed up again to lead the Junior class. Thanks to Mountain Motorcycle for their kind sponsorship of a really good day’s riding.

CPTA Uhuru Trial, October 15, 2023, Ioco, BC.

Forty riders showed up to ride the Uhuru trial at Ioco on October 15th, 2023.   A warm, if muggy, day greeted the riders with wet conditions from the rain the night before.  After riding through the dry summer, some adjustment was needed to ride this trial.

Alex Le won the Expert class for the first time and Sawyer Collie topped a large Advanced class. Andrew DeBoer was awesome in Senior Advanced with only 9 points for the day. Bill deGaris only took 3 points in Senior Intermediate and Bobby Shantz took only 7 points to win Intermediate.  Lyndsey Needham had 3 consistent laps in Junior and Bob Clark was best in Sportsman by 1 point.

CPTA Team Squid Outlaw Trial, April 23, 2023, Ioco, BC.

The 2023 edition of the Outlaw Trial took place on April 23rd at Ioco, BC.  The day dawned cool and cloudy but dry for the 26 riders that came out to play. The Expert and Advanced riders had 14 sections and two loops with the last 4 sections supplying most of the points. Sean Bird won Expert handily by only taking points on the last 2 sections.  Andrew deBoer was the runaway winner in Senior Advanced while Jason Miller had a tighter contest in Advanced.   Dave Fair snuck over from Vancouver Island to win Senior Intermediate by a 1 point margin while Rob Heagle had a little more breathing room to win Intermediate.

Our thanks to Dave Rhodes at Outlaw Accessories and Trialsport for his kind support of this event.

CPTA Spring Classic Trial,  April 2, 2023, Ioco, BC.

A brisk spring day greeted 29 riders for the Spring Classic Trial on April 2, 2023 at Ioco.  Eleven riders showed up with some interesting old bikes for the vintage classes and there was even a pristine collection on display.  When we drag out the old bikes there are bound to be problems. The day was made interesting by a leaking gas tank(JB Weld and tape) and 2 flat tires on another bike.  We tried to handicap Sean Bird by putting him on a 230 lb. Honda TL250 but he rode it like a rental and did not take a dab all day.  Classic B was also a clean sweep for Bob Clark on the SWM.

Jason Miller and Dan Donnelly won Intermediate and Senior Intermediate with identical 4 point scores.  Lyndsey Needham won Junior handily when the other 2 Juniors ran out of time and punched 5’s for the last lap. The rain started about when we finished so it was great weather on a good day.  Don Doerksen

Forces des Femmes

CPTA First Ever Women’s Only Trial March 19, 2023,  Ioco, BC.

The first ever Ladies only trial was held at Ioco, BC on March 19, 2023.

Called the Forces De Femme, it brought out an eager group to enjoy a mostly sunny ride with some coaching thrown in for good measure. Few of the ladies had ridden an actual trial before so there was lots to learn about section markers, lines, rules and how to have fun doing it. Scores mostly got better as some lessons were learned. Intermediate and Junior lines were laid out. Karaleen Gioia was best on the Intermediate line with a clean middle loop and Amanda Porsild had a good ride in Junior  with only 5 points lost for the day.

CPTA TRS Trial,  March 12, 2023, Ioco, BC.

The CPTA TRS Trial at Ioco took place on a fresh springlike day on March 12. Thirty seven riders showed up to ride and the rain held off until we were about finished. The Advanced/Expert loop had just the right amount of challenge for riders that had not ridden a trial for some months.

Sean Bird just squeaked a win by one point in Expert while Paul Marander won Advanced in his first attempt with a really steady clean last loop.  Ted McDowall took 4 points to take Senior Advanced by one point.

The Junior/Intermediate loop looked to take a fair scattering of points with a kicker at section 10 that did not see a clean all day on the Intermediate line.  Bobby Shantz was well clear to take Intermediate and Roy Anderson had it a little tighter in Senior/Intermediate.  Bob Clark is still showing the way in Sportsman and Lyndsey Needham was the last woman standing in Juniors. I had to use the windshield wipers all the way home but I was smiling after a great day’s ride.
