Moto Trials West Uhuru Trial, October 19, Ioco, BC.

It was time to drag out the rain jackets for the Uhuru trial at Ioco on October 19.  Moto Trials West sponsored this event and 20 riders showed up to remember how to ride in the wet.  Fortunately, it stopped raining after the first loop so it was just the tires getting wet.

Sean Bird was the runaway winner in Expert and Tim Thompson improved dramatically on the 2nd loop to take Advanced.  Carl Muller took Senior Advanced and the wily old Billy deGaris showed the Senior Intermediates what to do.

Our thanks to Moto Trials West for their support but next time can we have the sun come out earlier?

Iron Mountain Trial, September 21, Mission, BC.

After weeks of sunshine, some overnight rain blessed the Iron Mountain Trial on Sept. 21, 2025. The rain stopped before the start so the day was perfect to ride but some of the rocks turned from grippy to slimy. Ten Experts and seven Juniors turned up to ride and it was great to see a good number at each end of the spectrum. Slav was kind enough to shepherd the Juniors and make sure they knew what they were doing. Sawyer Collie was untouchable in Expert and Tim Thompson had 3 loops of the same score to take Senior Advanced.

Advanced went to a very steady Carl Muller and Richard Oeullet took Senior Intermediate by 2 points. Slav Orlov was not too distracted by the Juniors and got the best score in Intermediate with Jeremy Meyer taking half the points of the next rider to win Junior.

Beta Canada Trial, June 8, Ioco, BC.

There was a hot trial at Ioco on June 8, 2025. I think it was the first day of the year that we saw 30+ degrees and I am not sure that telling people to drink lots and ride was a good idea.  But, I only saw one bike get parked up in a tree, so I think the day went well. The scores looked low for the best riders so the section difficulty was just right. Sam Minchington had a great one point last loop in Expert and Guy Smeeth was the best in Senior Advanced with only 10 points all day. Tim Thompson won Advanced and Skip Parker was the dab miser to take Senior Intermediate. Our thanks to Beta Canada for their sponsorship and support of trials in Canada.

Whistler Trial, May 25, Whistler, BC.

If you like riding up (and I mean UP!) rock, you should have been at the Whistler trial on May 25/25. The dry weather before and during the trial was much appreciated. Forty two riders made the trip to the Sticks and Stones riding area just north of Whistler for a trial presented by 99 Trials and the CPTA. The top Experts must have appreciated the grip on the rocks as they came in with less than 10 points each from 30 sections with Sean Bird on just 3 points. Jake Eastman pipped his Dad by one point in Advanced but Gord Rinke got the low score in Senior Advanced with 8 for the best Advanced line score. Patrick Skinner only took 1 point all day in Senior Intermediate and Didac Cuadrauas won the large Intermediate class.

Team Squid Outlaw Trial, April 27, 2025, Ioco, BC

A dry day on the Wet Coast brought out 30 riders for the Outlaw Trial at Ioco on April 27. The trail was laid out in wet conditions so the scores were lower than usual or expected for this event. Expert and Advanced riders faced 15 sections twice and 9 riders in Expert made it the largest class on the day.

Sean Bird only dabbed once for the win but Alex and Christian were not that far behind with 8 and 10.  Brian McNeal was riding an old Montesa and showed the Advanced riders what to do. Guy Smeeth took Senior Advanced and Roy Anderson squeaked the win by one point in Senior Intermediate.

Richard Ouellet cleaned the first loop and then lost his way in a couple of sections but managed to hang to first in Intermediate. Our thanks to Outlaw Trialsport for their ongoing sponsorship of this event and the decades of encouraging trials in Canada.

Spring Classic and Women’s Trial, April 6, 2025, Ioco, BC

A very classic spring day brought out 25 hardy riders for the Spring Classic and the Ladies Trial at Ioco, BC.  A steady rain all day set the background for sections that did not improve with the addition of water. The ladies had separate sections under the care of Jaclyn and there was only one point difference between first and second place. In Classic A, Sean neglected to put a foot down all day on the 1974 Ossa.  The result changed from one Bob to another on the very last section of the day in the B class.  Roy Anderson won the Senior Intermediate and Brad Gugliemi did very well to take Intermediate.
